Around the country, there are nearly 50,000 such legal restrictions. They drive re-arrest and significantly contribute to high rates of re-arrest and re-incarceration of people who have been released from prison.
During the 2021 legislative session, lawmakers passed HB 3304. This bill allows the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation to establish a Re-entry and Transitional Housing Program, which will help alleviate some of these problems if properly implemented. It also can help to promote rehabilitation and ease reentry for some people.
