The WV Family of Convicted People is comprised entirely of formerly incarcerated people and their loved ones. Our goal is to bring justice-impacted people together and provide them the tools they need to dismantle West Virginia's brutal system of mass incarceration.
We work in the policy and advocacy realms to reform the criminal code to make it less punitive and more restorative. We also provide direct services to formerly incarcerated people to help increase their civic engagement and improve their quality of life.
WHAT WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED

Helped reach 14,000 formerly incarcerated voters ahead of the 2020 Election.
Our advocacy led to a 35 percent reduction in jail populations at the height of COVID-19.
Organized first-ever voter registration course in West Virginia regional jails.
Led coalition threat to sure state for refusing to vaccinate incarcerated people. The state began offering vaccines the next day.
Directed more than 1,100 phone calls from formerly incarcerated people to defeat harmful legislation.
Corresponded with nearly 4,000 concerned families of convicted people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Logged more than 5,800 calls to every West Virginia jail and prison to check on detainees at the request of family members.
Helped pass four positive pieces of legislation, including a bill to establish a re-entry and transitional housing program.
